Our Hearts Are In Uganda

Attached you will find photos of one of the children in the Our Hearts Are In Uganda program, Patience, arriving in Shanghai, China……Tom Thong and other Rotarians greeted her there.  Sammy Hsiao of the Chinese Gift of Life helped to arrange for her surgery.

    To All,

    We are privileged to have Patrick Kahuma from Kaihura, Uganda in our home, along with aunt Elisabeth Nyakato and interpreter Lois Aoli (Samaritan’s Purse volunteer).

    We are anxiously awaiting the next few days as his surgery is scheduled for Monday, May 18th.

    A big Thank You to all of those at Rotary Gift of Life and particularly a group of young Wilmington, NC men and women with ThrustClothing who have helped raise the funds to make this possible for Patrick.

    Our Hearts are in Uganda

    Apophia Natukunda, female, 9 years has successfully undergone open heart surgery today 18 May 2009 at National Heart Institute, New Delhi, India and her mother Katusiime Abia is very happy. She can be contacted on her direct mobile number +91 9717268432. Kindly convey this good news to Chad and Shelby Everett’s Granddaughter who supported Apophia to meet expenses.

    Harriet Nantume, female. 18 months has been discharged from Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi, India today 18 May 2009. She underwent surgery on 11 May 2009. Her mother Namala Margret is happy. Kindly convey this good news to Allen Feehan and his program who supported Harriet to meet expenses. Hurrah to GOLI for giving new lease of life to these two children. The long journey from African to India has been fruitful. You, Everett’s grand daughter and Allen do make them smile! The light ignited by Gift of Life will lighten up more homes in Uganda.

    They will be well looked after here in New Delhi till they board home on 31st May mid night with two precious lives in hand saved by the hospital and humanity..

    Rob,
    Praise and Sylvia have arrived home safely to Uganda from Amman, Jordan. We shall visit them at their home later. I followed the movement of the father on phone as he moved to and from the Airport to home. Ihave just talked to Sylivia. She is full of praise for all the efforts. She says Praise is well and playing., and this is encouraging. She thanks all of us.
    We are now proceeding to the Airport to wait for Polly.

    Harriet and Apophia getting ready to leave India for Uganda….

    Dear Sirs,

    After discharge from hospital, Apophia Natukunda is fine at her present place of stay. She is just waiting for a post operative final check up before flying back.

    Harriet Nantume is fine after her surgery/recuperating very fast.

    Both will travel together back to Uganda on the night between 31 May -01 June 2009 as scheduled by you.

    I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone for the warm welcome we had at the airport and for hosting the children before and after the surgery. Through the Gift of Life, each of these children and families have been embraced into the family of Love and will forever be grateful that someone they once never knew was good enough to provide the most needed gift for them..life. You are a special people as each of us beneficiaries will tell our story, now all over the 13 countries participating in this program. Lets continue to pray for successful surgery for the children still waiting.

    Lead by President Tom, Frank, Terry, Wingsee and friedn Karen, Edwin, volunteers
    WangWeng and Lei, a professional photographer and Consul Dr. Gelvis Turyagyenda
    from Uganda Consulate in Shanghai left Asionics Building for SKH at 10am.

    The group were welcomed by Chief Surgeon Dr. He of SKH and more volunteers from
    Suzhou University. They visited GOL kid from Uganda, Patience and her mother.
    Patience had a very successful operation and is recuperating very well. Dr. He said
    judging from Patience’s conditions, she can be discharged on Tuesday June 2nd.
    President Tom planned to hold a small welcoming ceremony at the RCS meeting
    on Tuesday June 2nd evening.

    Rtn. Frank volunteered to host Patience and her mother Aminah from June 2nd till
    their departure on Saturday June 6th. They are leaving Shanghai by Emirate Airline
    Flight # EK303 at 11:30pm, arriving Dubai on Sunday morning June 7th at 4:30am
    in transit to Uganda on Flight # EK723, departing at 8:25am that same morning
    they arrived.

    The group also visited the six GOL children from Henan Province. Four of them will be
    scheduled to operate on this week. They left SKH around 12:40pm after a successful
    visit.

    Here’s an article that chronicles the story of 3-year old Innocent Naggita and another child, Joyce, who is believed to be about 22 months. Joyce is an orphan, abandoned, likely due to her health challenges.

    Dear all,
    Mich arrived safely. The mothe was so happy and excited and could not hide it that Mich could walk and run.
    The othe children who returned with Mich are Innocent Kiwanuka and Jjingo Ismail with their mothers. Their relativeswere also there at the Airport to welcome them back. This was on Wednesday, June 3rd at 8.15 pm. We went to the Airport with a Radio reporter, Henry Baguma of UBC Radio.

    Mr Baguma has invited us to appear in a Radio Talk Show Program to talk and explain Gift of Life Uganda. I am going to arrange to appear with Garce and Moses.
